UCLA’s
17th Annual Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference will be held
on Friday, May 9th, 2008
from
10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
PURC
provides undergraduates from Southern California colleges the
opportunity to present and discuss their research in a professional
environment. Approximately 100 students participate each year. This
tradition demonstrates the UCLA Psychology Department’s
continued support of undergraduate research. Two formats showcase
undergraduate research endeavors: paper presentations and poster
presentations.
PURC
is one of the only events that involves the entire Department of
Psychology. The success of this day exists due to the effort and
enthusiasm of UCLA graduate students, faculty, staff, and
undergraduates. This event is open to the general public. We encourage
participants to invite their own guests, including their classmates,
lab mates, friends, and family.

Paper Sessions
20 projects will be selected as oral presentations. Presenters will be
given 10
minutes to present background, methods, results, and conclusions to a
small
audience. A 5-minute question and answer session will follow.
Presenters are
encouraged to create a PowerPoint presentation which will be displayed
using a
laptop and LCD projector. Each paper session includes 5 presentations
and lasts
for 90 minutes.
Poster Sessions
75 projects will be selected as poster presentations. Illustrative
material for
the poster (including title, diagrams, brief and relevant background
info,
methods, results and conclusions) will be limited in space to a poster
board 6
feet wide by 4 feet high. Students are required to stand by their
poster
presentation to discuss their research during their assigned 1-hour
session. |

Dinner
The
conference culminates with a dinner and
certificate ceremony on the back patio of Franz Hall from 6:00 p.m. to
7:00
p.m. This casual setting allows presenters to interact with students
from other
campuses, UCLA faculty, UCLA graduate students, and other PURC patrons.
We
require that all presenters, faculty sponsors, and volunteers RSVP in
advance
for this event. We are able to occasionally include additional guests
when space
permits.
